The Company is one of the leading travel companies in Europe with both internet based and voice based operations. The Company sells airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rentals, holiday packages and insurance. The Company operates in several West European countries with the UK being the largest operation.

Support Analysis
The company needed a comprehensive technology consulting and development solution because:
– The company grew into 10 European countries
   through acquisitions.
– As a result each country site used different technologies.
– The online site had limitations on number of concurrent users and travel transactions.
– Hotels and car hire were not available online, hence multi product buyers not attracted.

 
     
  The Offshore Centre solution

Based on an understanding of the program requirements, the Offshore Centre setup multiple VPNs between:

– The offsite remote management team and the Client website.
– The outsourced development centre and the Client’s development team.

A multi point technology programme was implemented:

– Rigorous monitoring was done on the servers to track systems behaviour under different conditions and user loads:
– A series of system and database tuning procedures were provided.
– The application server re-architecture was recommended.
– The network topology was revised.
– Database Technology across different subsidiaries was consolidated and moved to common platform.
– A new development relating to business travel was managed through a third party supplier.
– A new hotel system was created by using host-to-host connectivity with different suppliers to avoid human dependence and reduce costs.
– Additional GDS booking connectivity was enabled for strategic cost control and to mitigate the risk of single supplier dependency.
 
     
  Results
– After online site analysis and modifications the site could handle twice the volume of traffic without additional investment in hardware.
– The application flow redesign helped in increasing the online transaction volume by a factor of three.
– Maintenance cost and effort was significantly reduced after technology consolidation.
– New online revenue streams were created without additional investment in infrastructure.
